Encourage Your Children

Encourage your children to skate but don’t pressure them.
Let them choose to skate — or NOT.  Blades N Motion has a FULL REDUND policy for skaters not quite ready for their skating journey

Dress your skater in layers that are warm, comfortable and allow freedom of movement

Mittens and gloves are required for all skaters 5 & under and recommended for all

Helmets required for skaters 5 & under

Hockey Skating Dynamics Classes

  • Beginner – Helmet, shin pads. Add in gear as your player develops their skating skills
  • Intermediate – Full Gear and stick

Our READY SET SKATE RENTAL PROGRAM (details on website) program is ideal until your skater has committed to skating.

Figure Skates highly recommended for FIRST TIME skaters.
Figure skates have a longer, straighter blade which can help with balance. the toe pick stops the skater from going too far forward on the blade and the tail prevents from leaning too far back. Hockey skates have a shorter blade which is rockered causing falling forward and much frustration for a first time skater.

When you’re ready to invest in your own pair. Purchase skates from a local skate dealer that deals professionally with boots and blades and will work with you to find a good fit.  Coaches at Blades N Motion will be happy to recommend skate shops. Beginner skates cost at least $150 200. Used skates will also work, but check the boot’s support and blade for wear and tear.

Ready, Set Skate RENTAL Program

Skaters needing to rent skates will be fitted for NEW rental skates on the first day of each session by Riedell skate representative.   For the safety and health well-being of the skater, skates will be kept until last day of session they are participating and returned to Blades N Motion.
